Covid-19 Leads to Innovation for Aging Adults in Isolation

At risk populations are asked to stay in place, and in some cases, not allowed to have any visitors due to possibility of community spread of the disease.  UpTablet is the easiest video calling system for aging  adults, and it works!

Electronic Waste

In 2017 alone, Apple sold about 43.8 million iPads, while Samsung sold around 25 million tablets that year.  For every one million that are upcycled, 35,274 lbs of copper, 772 lbs of silver, 75 lbs of gold, and 33 lbs of palladium can be prevented from going into landfills.

Always On

The UpTablet stays on one screen even when the screen is pushed, swiped, or dragged by someone's finger.  UpTablet is always powered up because it is always plugged in.

You Decide Which Apps.

Tablets always come loaded with apps and features that are not needed.  UpTablet "Always On" screen lets you decide which applications to choose.  This is a caregiver remote control feature.

Remote Control

The remote control features allow you to control an UpTablet from your computer anywhere in the world.   Even simple video calling and answering can be difficult for some of our loved ones.  This is especially helpful for those with dementia, recovering from stroke, or persons who are challenged with technology.  This is a caregiver remote control feature.

The Numbers

In mid-March, 2020, COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States; 31% of cases, 45% of hospitalizations, 53% of ICU admissions, and 80% of deaths occurred among adults aged ≥65 years with the highest percentage of severe outcomes among persons aged ≥85 years.

Governors from across the United States ordred people to stay home and stay safe.  Aging adult community apartments issued "no visitor" policies to keep their residents safe.

The Process

We believe in supporting the caregiver in the caregiving process.  We are using upcycled tablets to reduce e-waste and to pass the savings on to you.  We will take the donated tablets and provision them to run in "UP" mode where it is always on.  We will then test and package the tablet into the mounting stand, and ship it to the caregiver.  We will provide the steps necessary to link the desired applications to the device.  At any time, the tablet can be returned to be upcycled for the next user.
